  • Al Ghurair City gets story teller to capture spirit of Ramadan
    Friday, October 06, 2006

Families and children visiting Al Ghurair City during Ramadan can experience a special ambience that has been created to highlight the Islamic character and Arab roots of the country’s premier shopping destination.

In an effort to capture the essence of the Holy month, the mall has got a veteran story teller to narrate tales of yore in English and Arabic to enlighten children on Ramadan, the legendary feats in the Arab world and Islamic history that is to this day a subject that fascinates a broad range of people from thinkers to theologists. The story teller also recites the favourite folklores and stories of children like Ali Baba, Sinbad and the Jungle Book.

Dressed in the garb of an Arab Princess, and sitting inside a special tent set up next to Plug-Ins on the ground floor, the story teller has been attracting many children who visit Al Ghurair City. As children gather around her in great excitement, she interacts with them by getting them to introduce themselves and asking them to tell stories that they know of. With the help of moppets, she makes the narration even more entertaining. As part of her interactive session, the story teller also invites children to participate in fun activities like spotting the difference in pictures.

The story-telling session takes place between 8.30 and 10pm on Wednesday and Thursday during Ramadan.

Mukta Sabharwal, Events and PR Coordinator, Al Ghurair City, said: “The story teller and other activities not only reflect the Arab and Islamic nature of the mall but also make shopping at Al Ghurair City an exciting experience. As Ramadan is also a month for reflection, we have decorated the mall in a way that creates the appropriate atmosphere for families to spend quality time in a relaxed setting”.

Other Ramadan highlights at Al Ghurair City include a traditional Majlis (Ramadan tent), where visitors will be served dates and kahwa (Arabic coffee), and an Oud player performing on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays.

Shoppers can also participate in a live radio show that will be hosted by a RJ from a popular radio station, during which they can interact with her and win many exciting prizes from Al Ghurair City every Friday and Saturday during Ramadan.

Al Ghurair City has undergone a visual transformation during Ramadan with eye-catching and distinctive decorative material including crescent moons to complement the mall’s Arabic-inspired architecture putting visitors in the right mood. Fabricated columns with the traditional lamp on top add to the Ramadan décor.

Shoppers are also being attracted by a Ramadan promotion which gives them the opportunity to win two top-of-the-line cars. Shoppers spending Dhs. 200 in any of the more than 200 outlets at Al Ghurair City will receive a coupon that will be entered into two raffle draws. Two lucky shoppers can drive away with a Volkswagen Touareg 2007 model car.

Shoppers spending Dhs. 200 at any of the outlets on the mall’s first floor, can double their chances to win. The first floor is home to a range of stores offering traditional wear and products including several stocked with high quality Abayas, Shaylas and Oud that are a major attraction among UAE nationals, resident Arab expatriates and visitors from the Arab world.

The draw dates are 12th October and 25th October.
